¡Entusiasmo! - written and produced by Robin Lane - brings to life the extraordinary story of Las Gaviotas, a village in the eastern plains of Colombia whose trajectory is vividly described in Alan Weisman's book "Gaviotas: A Village to Reinvent the World." ¡Entusiasmo! is based on Weisman's bok.
On stage, the story is presented as a provocative blend of sensuous aerial dance, breathtaking acrobatics, humor, and live music, along with a traditional dramatic narrative. The performance gradually turns a barren stage into a paradise filled with wonder and delight.
¡Entusiasmo! portrays several stages of development of Las Gaviotas during its first 20 years: the arrival of founder Paolo Lugari in the Llanos; the establishment of Las Gaviotas; the exciting process of trial and error as Gaviotans invent new machines and technologies; the political reality as Gaviotans come into contact with Colombia's guerrilla force; the strains felt as the world economy changes and market opportunities almost dry up and destroy Las Gaviotas; and the final triumph as new solutions are found and Las Gaviotas continues to live by its principles of inventing and providing the world with sustainable technology and products.
The spoken word is primarily in English, interspersed with some Spanish. ¡Entusiamso! features traditional Colombian music by Los Llaneros, and live original music by composer Joan Szymko.
